Electron - Cloud Instability in the VLHC 1

چکیده

Over a few bunch passages photoemission and secondary emission could generate a quasi-stationary electron-cloud in the VLHC beam pipe, giving rise to a multi-bunch instability. In this paper, we report preliminary simulation results of the electron cloud build-up and its response to a beam displacement. The estimated instability rise time is about 3{4 s in both transverse planes.

Electron-Cloud Instability and Beam-Induced Multipacting in the LHC and in the VLHC*

fin the beam pipe of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), photoemission and secondary emission give rise to a quasistationary electron cloud, which is established after a few bunch passages. The response of this electron cloud to a transversely displaced bunch resembles a short-range wakefield and can cause a fast instability [l]. In addition, beam-induced multipacting of the electrons may lead to ...

Electron - Cloud E ects in High - Luminosity Colliders

Electron-cloud instabilities are expected to be important in most high-lu-minosity double-ring colliders. In this report, I describe a few parameter regimes and some critical parameter dependences of this type of instability, and illustrate these with simulation results for the PEP-II and KEK B factories , the LHC, the VLHC, and DAPHNE. In addition, I study the possibility and the potential imp...

Suppression of the Beam Instability Related to Electron Cloud at Pep-ii B-factory*

PEP-II B-factory operates at a record high circulating current currently ~2.5 A in the positron ring. Electron cloud effects became apparent [1] when the positron ring current reached ~ 0.7 A with a bunch current ~1.5 mA. Initially, electron cloud induced beam instabilities significantly limited collider luminosity [2]. However, suppression of the electron cloud related beam instabilities have ...
